The Power of Fasting
"God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth." - John 4:24
Our flesh is sinful by nature. It cannot do good deeds on its own. We need to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Until we are renewed at the second coming of Jesus Christ, we have to fight against demons. Our flesh desires things that are evil, while our spirit desires things that are of God. We are in a constant tug of war between Good and Evil. If we fill our mind with so many earthly possessions, our fleshy desire will grow stronger and our spirit will grow weaker. Therefore, it is not good to indulge in whatever we want to do because it will lead to disaster in the end. To draw closer to God, we have to sacrifice what our flesh desires. To grow in spirit, fasting is very helpful because we sacrifice our desire for the sake of God. The more we practice it, the stronger we become in our spiritual life. When we fast, our body becomes weaker and the spirit can start working in us. If we are too caught up in this world, we supress our gentle spirit. So, we need to be mindful and stay away from our fleshy desires, and instead choose the desires of the spirit. Once we grow our spirit in Christ, we can face this world with contented hearts no matter how difficult a situation maty be because God is our confidence.
